01 · Quick answer
Choose the gate before choosing the route
Most visitors simply walk, because central Florence is compact and Pitti Palace is just across the river. Buses help if you are further away or want to avoid the hill. Choose a gate other than Pitti only when your ticket, route or access needs make it better.
01Best overall
Walk across the Ponte Vecchio
From the Uffizi or Piazza della Signoria, cross the Ponte Vecchio and follow Via de’ Guicciardini straight to Piazza de’ Pitti. It takes about 5 minutes from the bridge and 10–15 minutes from the Duomo.
- ≈5 min from the bridge
- Flat route
- Busy at midday

02Easy bus
Electric bus C1, C3 or C4 to PITTI
Florence’s small electric buses thread through the historic centre and stop at PITTI, right by Piazza de’ Pitti. They are useful from further across the centre, in heat or rain, or for tired legs.

03South side
C1 or suburban buses to Porta Romana
C1 also serves CALZA ROMANA, ROMANA BOBOLI and PIAZZA SAN FELICE along Via Romana. Several suburban lines pass Porta Romana, which is handy for starting at the southern end of the garden.

- Isolotto first

04Door to door
Taxi
A taxi works well with limited mobility or a tight connection. Florence taxis are white and are taken from ranks or booked by phone or app. They are rarely hailed in the street.

- Short final walk
Before leavingTell the driver the gate: Pitti, Annalena (Via Romana) or Porta Romana. They are different drop-offs.
05From the station
Walk from Santa Maria Novella
From Florence’s main station it is about a 20-minute walk: via Via de’ Tornabuoni and the Ponte Santa Trinita, or via the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio. It is flat until you reach Piazza de’ Pitti.
- ≈20 min walk
- Flat route
- Store luggage first
With bagsLeave suitcases at the station or your hotel. The garden cloakroom is for bags and umbrellas, not luggage.
06Accessible route
Accessible entrance approach
The accessible entrances are on the left side of the Pitti Palace courtyard and at Piazzale di Porta Romana. The garden is steep, so visitors with reduced mobility need a companion.
- Two entrances
- Sloping terrain
- Companion needed
Before travelConfirm the entrance and current access arrangements with the museum before setting out.

Guided visit meeting point
Guided tours often meet in Piazza de’ Pitti or nearby, not at the ticket desk. Your voucher is the instruction that matters.
